Skyros is a small isle under the jurisdiction of Evia lying in the Aegean Sea with its Cycladic features, enchants with the rich changes of scenery, fascinates with its special island countenance and is suitable for any tourism activity. The tourism development has not altered the character of the island. The imposing capital of the island (Chora) with the Byzantine Castle on the top, and the picturesque villages, the beautiful sandy beaches with the deep crystal blue waters, fullfill the visitors with unforgettable memories.

Skyros is famous for its small bodied ponies. They have a relatively large heads, and big eyes and nostrils. The ponies have a large and strong neck in comparison with their shoulder blades and chest. Visitors and particular the young ones, love the cute famous ponies of Skyros.

 

These Pony are a very rare breed,  they do not exist, in other parts of the world. The were a great help to farmers used for threshing and ploughing rural agricultural tasks in the past. 


Today, they belong to the protected species, such as the famous seal " Monachus - Monachus" and the "Caretta - Caretta" turtles. Their height ranges from 90cm to 110cm and are ideal for children to ride.
